I grew up in a very controlling, abusive, religiously restricted family. Throughout my childhood I was referred to as the “glue” that held the family together which was a great responsibility for a child to bear. My family has always suffered from addiction, and I suffered the consequences of their decisions. I suffered mentally, physically and emotionally so when my mother relapsed with alcohol my own traumas started to be visibly recognizable. I suffered from a severe eating disorder and alcohol helped numb what I was feeling. I kept running back to an abusive relationship to find some safety, comfort and the genuine love that I had lacked in my life. I was spiraling out of control even leading to homelessness. My family found the Lord and freedom from addictive behaviors at Home of Hope, so I decided to finally come and seek the relief they had. While here I hope to have a new life through Jesus Christ and see myself as He does. I also want to reconnect with my family in a healthy way during my healing process so forgiveness and healing can begin.
